    Plant your next achacha in full shade. Here in Florida they seem to do much better when planted under a tree that gives them more shade and also helps to protect them from radiative cooling during the winter. They also benefit from a lot of consistent daily irrigation for the first few years until their tap root is more developed.

    The Chupa Chupa or Matisia tree will grow in my area near Newcastle in New South Wales by the sounds of things on the Ross Creek Tropicals website because we only get the occasional frost which does kill off the leaves on my cassava plants which I will drag out from underneath the house in about 4-5 weeks time. I just have to keep the Matisia tree away from the house that I will live in, that's all. Alyssa seems to be having a little bit of difficulty with her Cempedak & Jackfruit trees getting frost burn despite having them under cover (plastic sheets), she says it has got down to -2°C overnight in Melbourne where she lives. Mine have taken the cold quite well although my largest jackfruit plant had mold issues due to water dripping on the leaves & not drying off on the cold & wet days because my greenhouse has holes in its plastic roof now so it leaks. It has only got down to 2°C on a couple of occasions overnight this year at my location but it has been 5°C on average overnight this month,it doesn't get as cold as Melbourne does overnight unless you go further inland by about 100 kilometres. During a sunny 18°C day my greenhouse plants could be forgiven for thinking that they're growing in Cairns during the day because it got up to 27°C inside of the greenhouse today. I am sure that I smelled spring in the air today, spring is going to make a good attempt at arriving on Thursday with a forecast of 23°C during the day which means that I can wear shorts that day but we get a wet change on Thursday followed by a few 17°C days which isn't what I am not looking forward to !

    Good idea to start some portable compost bins, throwing fruit under the tree is how you spread fruit fly. The black compost bins double as thermal heat mass and wind protection for subtropicals too,.

    • @RealLifeFruitopia
      @RealLifeFruitopia 15 дней назад

      That's a great idea, I might get some new bins. That fruit will be mostly decomposed by summer, not much left for maggots but plenty of nutrients for the tree.

    Abiu is looking better than mine at the moment. I’m getting the possums eating my paw paw Leaves 🍃 now. Have to spray Chillies 🌶️ spray on the leaves left when this rain 🌧️ stops to get the possums to piss off! Like I said with the ice cream bean you had that needed spray but like that when the tree gets large who has time for that in winter 🥶 when it rains off the chillies spray ? They have not killed it but they are working from the top to down eating the leaves. Any advices what you would do with this problem ? The tree is to big to net now I really don’t want to have do that ? But it’s taking some a fluke to work I don’t want to lose it to possums. The younger southern red paw paw that covered by a greenhouse bag over underneath it is going ok I need it to make it work and alive with the larger one to set fruit as all I got last season was flowers.
